Reno, Nev. -  During the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties (NAIOP) Development '08 National Conference that was held last month in Las Vegas, Michael Dermody, Par Tolles and Scott Beggs lead key presentations and panel sessions, taking the depth of industry knowledge and experience found in the Northern Nevada Chapter of NAIOP to a national level.

Michael Dermody, Chairman and CEO of DP Partners, a member of Dermody Properties, joined some of the most notable leaders in the development industry for Development '08's CEO Insight series. The series offered an ideal setting for these top leaders to candidly discuss their personal and professional experiences, providing attendees valuable industry knowledge.  In his CEO Insight session, Dermody discussed the importance of achieving your IRR: Integrity, Respect and Responsibility. His presentation focused on corporate and personal integrity, especially in a family business spanning 30+ years with one of the nation's top industrial developers.  "I enjoyed visiting with many individuals at NAIOP that I have known and done business with for the last 15-20 years.  My first presentation at NAIOP was in Florida in 1984 and it was as much fun this time as it was then," said Dermody.  "One of the benefits of getting older is that everyone thinks you now have wisdom; it is really more like experience, bumps, and bruises.  I felt honored to speak and it was great to get reacquainted with all of the fine people at NAIOP."

Par Tolles, DP Partners' President, led a panel discussion on structuring atypical deals and Scott Beggs, Investment Specialist with NAI Alliance, served as a moderator for a panel of commercial real estate entrepreneurs as they shared their stories on launching their own development firms.

"The opportunity to join a panel of commercial real estate entrepreneurs was a privilege," said Beggs. " Entrepreneurial real estate development companies create projects that improve the quality of our community.  These developers also create good paying jobs that will help our economy get back on track.  Understanding the difficulties faced by these companies will benefit our market as we struggle in the face of onerous impact fees, rising construction costs, declining rents and lower yields."

Development '08 offered national attendees a tour of commercial projects significant to the Las Vegas market and provided innovative education sessions and panel discussions on topics including green development, industrial and mixed-use development, capital markets and real estate financing, professional and career development and industrial and office design trends.
